About and missions

Founded in 1981 in Tangier under the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration, and the Family, the National Institute of Social Action (INAS) stands as Morocco's foundational public higher learning institute dedicated to professionalizing social work. INAS educates qualified practitioners equipped to design, implement, and evaluate social welfare programs, family mediation initiatives, child protection protocols, and community-based psychosocial interventions across the nation.

The curriculum integrates sociological frameworks, clinical psychology, family law, and community casework techniques with mandatory long-term field practicums across psychiatric hospitals, addiction centers, youth protection facilities, and correctional facilities. INAS also conducts applied field research on evolving social conditions in Morocco.

Psychosocial Casework at the Core of INAS Academic Programs

Contemporary social work extends beyond material relief; it demands sophisticated understanding of psychological trauma, relational distress, and institutional marginalization. INAS degree curricula prioritize developmental psychology, active empathetic listening, trauma-informed care, and holistic psychosocial assessment. Students are trained to design interventions grounded in informed consent, re-establishing personal agency and civic dignity for vulnerable individuals.

Field Action Research and Public Social Policy Development

Through faculty scholarship and graduate field dissertations, INAS actively shapes Moroccan social policy development. The institute conducts empirical assessments regarding disability inclusion, unaccompanied minor protection, long-term elder care, and comprehensive casework for women experiencing violence. These investigations provide public authorities with actionable evidence tailored to Moroccan sociocultural conditions.
