About and missions

Founded in 1995 in Tangier by Mounira Bouzid El Alami, Association Darna ('Our Home') stands as a landmark community institution for social inclusion and youth protection in northern Morocco. Addressing urban hardship, educational dropout, and street homelessness in the crossroad city of Tangier, Darna established an ecosystem of supportive hubs: the Children's House, the Youth House, Women's Community Workshop, and vocational training farms.

The association places personal rebuilding, self-esteem, and emotional resilience at the core of its methodology. Street-connected children and youth facing severe emotional neglect find warm sanctuary, tailored psychological counseling, and creative outlets including theatre, music, and painting guided by passionate educators and volunteer psychologists. For older adolescents and isolated women, Darna provides recognized vocational qualifications in hospitality, carpentry, weaving, and sustainable farming, securing sustainable economic and psychological independence.

Support and services

Day center drop-in, nutritious meals, hygiene amenities, and trauma-informed psychosocial intake for street youth. Individual counseling and therapeutic creative expression workshops. Remedial schooling, literacy classes, and mainstream school re-enrollment. Certified vocational apprenticeships in culinary arts, woodworking, and textiles. Social empowerment casework for vulnerable mothers.

Artistic and Theatrical Expression as a Therapeutic Bridge

Children traumatized by domestic abuse, street life, or familial rejection frequently find verbal articulation blocked by shame or hypervigilance. Darna established theatre, circus arts, choral singing, and painting as powerful therapeutic tools. On Darna's community theatre stage, youth learn to reclaim bodily calm, channel inner frustration, and share stories before supportive audiences, initiating deep emotional healing.

Vocational Training: A Resilient Pathway to Citizen Independence

Psychological rehabilitation achieves its full potential when paired with viable economic self-reliance. Darna's vocational workshops and pedagogical farm enable adolescents and young adults aged 16 to 25 to master skilled trades in a supportive environment. Solid partnerships with local Tangier businesses ensure graduates secure stable employment, breaking generational cycles of marginalization.
