About and missions

Established in 1999 under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity stands as Morocco's paramount institution for social development and humanitarian assistance. In response to escalating substance use disorders impacting youth and fragile households, the Foundation formulated, funded, and rolled out a transformative national addiction treatment program in 2010.

This initiative created specialized addiction treatment centers built upon a dual-pillar design: a medical clinical wing (operated by the Ministry of Health) coupled with a psychosocial community wing (managed by qualified civil society partner associations). Through this co-located model, patients receive medical detoxification, clinical psychotherapy, and opioid agonist maintenance (methadone), alongside art therapy, sports rehabilitation, vocational retraining, and active family mediation. To date, over 16 state-of-the-art centers operate across major Moroccan cities including Rabat, Casablanca, Fes, Tangier, Tetouan, Marrakech, Oujda, Nador, Agadir, and Chefchaouen.

The Innovative Bipolar Architecture: Integrating Medical Care and Social Reconnection

The core innovation of the Mohammed V Foundation model lies in the symbiotic duality between medical treatment and social reintegration within a single institution. The clinical wing delivers diagnostics, pharmacotherapy, and somatic follow-up under medical confidentiality. Concurrently, the psychosocial wing, staffed by civil society caseworkers, dismantles isolation, rebuilds self-worth through sports and arts, and cultivates vocational pathways securing long-term community reintegration.

Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Economic Empowerment for Recovered Youth

Physiological detoxification is merely the initial step toward sustainable recovery. To prevent relapse and anchor long-term wellness, Foundation centers design tailored reintegration programs focused on vocational apprenticeships, certification, and micro-enterprise development assistance. By equipping vulnerable individuals with viable economic futures and renewed dignity, the Foundation transforms recovered persons into engaged, self-sufficient citizens.
