About and missions

Established in 1997 in Rabat by parents seeking sustainable prospects for their children growing into adulthood, and granted public-utility status in 2002, the Association of Parents and Friends of People with Intellectual Disabilities (HADAF) addresses the critical gap in specialized support for adolescents and young adults aged seventeen and older. Governed by a volunteer board composed predominantly of parents of youth with intellectual disabilities, the organization upholds a rights-based philosophy centered on human dignity, full citizenship, and the recognition of each individual's capabilities.

Operating from its Socio-professional Centre in the Hay Ennahda district of Rabat, the association provides a structured environment that integrates specialized life-skills education, social development, and hands-on vocational apprenticeship. Moving away from passive care models, HADAF designs tailored developmental pathways that nurture self-determination, prepare young adults for meaningful employment, and actively support family caregivers throughout their journey.

The Socio-professional Centre and Vocational Workshops

Established to provide educational continuity beyond childhood special schooling, the HADAF Socio-professional Centre welcomes young people aged seventeen and older around an individualized development plan. Trainees gain hands-on experience across diverse manual and creative trades, including carpentry, sewing and embroidery, organic gardening and plant cultivation, artisanal jewelry making, and decorative painting.

Technical apprenticeship is complemented by cognitive maintenance sessions, drama workshops, and sports activities that strengthen motor coordination, self-confidence, and teamwork.

Solidarity Restaurant and Dar Diaf Guest House

To translate vocational training into tangible employment, HADAF operates public-facing social enterprises directly on its campus. Inaugurated in 2017, the solidarity training restaurant and catering service enable young apprentices to practice culinary preparation, pastry arts, and table service with real customers, actively challenging social stigma.

Alongside the restaurant, the Dar Diaf guest house, developed with support from the OCP Foundation and furnished with woodwork and paintings crafted in the centre's workshops, offers short-stay accommodation and conference facilities that showcase the trainees' professional skills.

Parent-Led Governance and Family Support

Born from the determination of families confronting the scarcity of adult disability services, HADAF places peer family solidarity at the core of its governance. Regular interaction between experienced parents, special education professionals, and newly welcomed families helps break social isolation, alleviate long-term parental anxiety, and strengthen collective advocacy for the right of people with intellectual disabilities to lead active, dignified lives.
