About and missions

Active in Morocco since the mid-2000s, Soleterre Foundation (through its national branch) leads targeted humanitarian and psychosocial interventions grounded in healthcare equity, human dignity, and emotional resilience for vulnerable populations. Its flagship operational initiative focuses on pediatric psycho-oncology within the pediatric hematology and oncology departments of Rabat Children's Hospital (CHU Ibn Sina) and Abderrahim Harouchi Children's Hospital (CHU Ibn Rochd in Casablanca).

Soleterre's clinical psychologists support young patients with life-threatening cancer diagnoses and their families from initial diagnosis through long-term medical therapies. Individual counseling, play therapy, expressive drawing, and relaxation techniques alleviate procedural pain and the profound psychological isolation of pediatric oncology wards. Beyond hospital walls, the organization also implements community-based psychosocial initiatives assisting unaccompanied migrant children, vulnerable street-connected youth, and single mothers living in extreme precariousness.

Support and services

Bedside psycho-oncological therapy for children in pediatric oncology departments. Structured psychological counseling and peer support groups for parents and family caregivers. Hospital-based art therapy, expressive play, and socio-educational activities. Practical psychosocial assistance for vulnerable families regarding lodging, transportation, and nutrition. Mental health first aid and trauma support for unaccompanied migrant minors. Professional training modules in psycho-oncology for hospital nurses and pediatric doctors.

Pediatric Psycho-Oncology : Humanizing Hospital Care and Sustaining Hope

A pediatric cancer diagnosis causes acute upheaval for families, immersing young patients in distressing medical environments. Soleterre's interventions safeguard the emotional space of childhood amidst aggressive treatments. Through art, play, and empathetic dialogue, clinical psychologists empower children to articulate fears, improve therapeutic compliance with healthcare teams, and maintain hope throughout recovery.

Holistic Caregiver Casework and Family Vulnerability Support

Severe childhood illness often leads to loss of employment, displacement from rural communities, and economic strain that exacerbates emotional despair. Soleterre provides a multidimensional support network: direct psychological counseling for bedside mothers, emergency transport and lodging stipends, and institutional social mediation. This comprehensive safety net preserves family stability so caregivers can focus on their child's recovery.
