Moroccan League for Child Protection

Major national public-utility organization providing comprehensive medical, psychological, and developmental care for children without family support and mothers in need.

About and missions

Founded in 1954 and officially recognized as a public-utility institution in 1970, the Moroccan League for Child Protection (LMPE) is one of the Kingdom’s longest-standing and most expansive child advocacy organizations. Chaired by HRH Princess Lalla Zineb, the League administers an extensive nationwide network of reception centres (principally the Lalla Meryem centres) dedicated to abandoned newborns, orphans, children without family support, and minors facing neurodevelopmental delays. It unites residential safety, rigorous pediatric and neuropsychiatric care, and nurturing psychological support.

Support and services

Continuous residential care for newborns, infants, and young children deprived of family support.
Pediatric monitoring, neurodevelopmental evaluations, and early identification of cognitive delays.
Psychomotor therapy, speech-language therapy, and early sensory stimulation programs.
Individual psychological counseling tailored to attachment disruption, loss, and emotional adjustment.
Casework and legal administrative guidance for legal guardianship and foster placement (Kafala).
Medico-social guidance unit assisting mothers in severe distress and vulnerability.

How to access support

Residential placements of children without family support are coordinated through judicial authorities (public prosecution, juvenile judges). For outpatient pediatric, developmental, and psychomotor consultations, Kafala inquiries, or maternal support services, families are received at the Lalla Meryem Centre in Rabat or at regional delegations during standard administrative hours.

Psychomotor Development and Early Developmental Stimulation

The initial months of life are decisive for neurological maturation and emotional regulation. In LMPE nurseries, infants receive individualized sensory stimulation protocols, interactional games, and psychomotor therapies designed to prevent developmental lags and mitigate the absence of dedicated familial care.

Psychological and Legal Guidance in Family Kafala

The League plays a pivotal role in the success of family Kafala placements. Its specialized teams assess the psychological readiness of prospective guardians, facilitate reciprocal bonding during the initial adaptation period, and maintain regular post-placement follow-up to ensure long-term emotional flourishing.

Maternal Guidance and Primary Abandonment Prevention

The League actively invests in primary prevention by assisting mothers experiencing acute distress or extreme economic deprivation. Compassionate counseling, health support, and guidance toward social integration empower many women to overcome hardship and retain care of their infants rather than facing separation.
