The harm reduction strategy embraced by AHSUD is an evidence-based, compassionate public health approach prioritizing life preservation and human dignity. Without endorsing substance use, it recognizes the hurdles of abrupt withdrawal, providing practical measures to avert overdose mortality, curb blood-borne viral epidemics, and restore foundational trust between vulnerable people and healthcare institutions.
Management of Social Services in Addictology
Under formal partnership agreements with the Ministry of Health and regional authorities, AHSUD administers the psychosocial and community services within Tangier’s public addictology facilities (Beni Makada, Bir Chifa, Hay Al-Jadid). This synergistic collaboration between medical teams (methadone dispensing, somatic care) and civil society staff (peer support, basic hygiene, cultural activities) ensures holistic recovery.
Legal Advocacy and Civic Reintegration
AHSUD actively advocates for modernized legal and policy frameworks regarding drug dependence, prioritizing health-centered approaches and therapeutic alternatives to incarceration for simple possession. The association assists participants in re-establishing vital civil documentation, accessing public health coverage, and resolving family ruptures, unlocking genuine pathways toward personal autonomy and citizenship.
