Moroccan Association for Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders (AMAMA)
Pioneering association providing specialized day care, neurocognitive stimulation for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, and psychotherapeutic support groups for family caregivers.
About and missions
Founded by civic advocates and psychogeriatric specialists, the Moroccan Association for Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders (AMAMA) champions the dignity of individuals experiencing neurodegenerative decline while alleviating family caregiver burden. The association operates a dedicated day centre in Casablanca offering cognitive maintenance therapy, light physical rehabilitation, and creative art therapy supervised by neuropsychologists. Concurrently, AMAMA runs extensive psychoeducational initiatives for primary family caregivers, including psychologist-led support groups, behavioral management workshops, and listening hotlines designed to counter caregiver burnout and clinical depression. The association champions person-centered care that honors older adults' individual identities and life rhythms, emphasizing that neurocognitive decline never diminishes human personhood. AMAMA strengthens intergenerational bonds and trains practitioners in early diagnostic screening.

The day centre strives to preserve remaining autonomy by actively stimulating executive functioning and residual memory. Cognitive maintenance drills, sensory stimulation, and compassionate social interaction grant individuals a renewed sense of security and dignity. Sensory stimulation activities feature therapeutic culinary sessions, adapted horticultural therapy, and musical reminiscence drills, clinical approaches proven to soothe evening sundowning agitation and reduce reliance on heavy psychotropic sedatives.
Psychological counseling and caregiver support
Caring for a relative with dementia subjects family members to chronic distress, emotional depletion, and guilt. Clinical support circles provide a non-judgmental space to debrief difficulties, decipher mood fluctuations, and adopt protective self-care boundaries. Individual psychological counseling is offered to caregivers navigating ambiguous loss and anticipated grief, addressing the painful distress of watching a loved one's personality fade while remaining physically present.
Public awareness and destigmatisation of dementia
Alzheimer’s disease is still erroneously dismissed as unavoidable senility or treated with social concealment. AMAMA leads sustained public awareness campaigns to reframe neurodegenerative disorders as critical public health priorities requiring proactive clinical care and collective solidarity.
