Democratic Association of Moroccan Women (ADFM) - Nejma Centre
Leading advocacy and social welfare organisation operating the specialized Nejma centres, delivering confidential psychosocial counseling, clinical trauma care, and legal aid for women survivors of violence.
About and missions
Established in 1985, the Democratic Association of Moroccan Women (ADFM) is a pioneer feminist non-governmental organisation dedicated to gender equality and legal empowerment. Through its specialized Nejma listening centres in Rabat and Casablanca, ADFM operates an unconditional, confidential, and survivor-centred reception protocol. Women facing domestic violence, sexual assault, economic abandonment, or severe marital disputes receive evidence-based psychotherapeutic care focused on trauma resolution and self-empowerment. Clinical counselors work in close lockstep with legal advisors to guide judicial complaints and ensure holistic social re-adaptation. By synthesizing frontline therapeutic clinical intervention with rigorous intellectual and legal advocacy, ADFM produces empirical research on gender-based violence in Morocco. This holistic paradigm propels cultural shifts, advancing a more equitable and protective society.

Nejma Centre was conceived as an unshakeable sanctuary where women can speak freely without fear of societal reproach. Upon arrival, survivors enter a comprehensive active listening session enabling them to express traumatic experiences, break isolation, and regain control over their life choices.
Psychotherapeutic care and integrated legal assistance
Trauma inflicted by physical and psychological abuse demands targeted clinical intervention addressing panic states, reactive depression, and sleep fragmentation. Therapists conduct this restorative mental healthcare in close coordination with attorneys preparing survivors for court proceedings. Provided psychotherapies dismantle acquired helplessness, rebuilding core assertiveness and executive agency indispensable for survivors to rebuild their lives and protect dependent children.
Advocacy for equality, female empowerment and reintegration
ADFM translates clinical and legal casework from listening centres into empirical advocacy briefs urging reforms of the Family Code (Moudawana) and penal statutes. Simultaneously, it facilitates mutual aid solidarity circles and connects survivors with job retraining for lasting financial independence.
